Visit St. Pete/Clearwater along with St. Petersburg Mayor Kriseman announced the results of Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards – naming St. Pete the No. 10 Best Big City in the U.S. The popular travel magazine recognized the city for its cultural arts scene and proximity to area white sand beaches.

More than 715,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted a record-breaking number of responses, making this year’s honor especially noteworthy. This award comes on the heels of the new $92 million St. Pete Pier opening to major buzz and rave reviews in July. The Sunshine City ranked among well-known cities including Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C.

“Condé Nast Traveler has confirmed what 270,000 residents and millions of visitors know: The Sunshine City is one of the greatest cities in the world,” said St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman. “Our natural environment, arts and culture, culinary scene, and destinations like our dynamic new pier have helped St. Pete soar. My hope is that everyone will come visit us as we emerge from the pandemic. We'll be shining brighter than ever.”

“This type of award is a testament to St. Pete/Clearwater's evolution in the past decade,” said Visit St. Pete/Clearwater CEO and President Steve Hayes. “We’re not just home to world-class beaches, but also to a world-class cultural city like St. Pete, which has helped us become the third largest destination in the state."

Launched in 1988, Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers' Choice Awards are billed as the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are commonly known as ‘the best of the best of travel.’ Readers offered and ranked their opinions on the world’s best travel experiences. The full list of winners can be found here. The 2020 Readers' Choice Awards are published on Condé Nast Traveler's website and celebrated in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler US and UK print editions.
